10 January 2016: 'The Turnastone dig.'  Guided by Steve Edwards, ten people and five dogs braved the very muddy conditions to view the previous year's excavations in the Shegear brook area, and to appreciate the restored sluice at the confluence of Shegear and Trennant brooks.
14 February 2016: Church crawl to Madley and Kingstone, led by Steve Edwards and Cynthia Comyn. Eleven members journeyed by car to Madley where we viewed this impressive church from bottom (the crypt) to top (the tower). Spectacular views made the narrow steep climb up the tower worthwhile. Moving on the Kingstone we looked at the history and architecture of this medieval building, and its range of interesting fittings. Visit our Flickr site to see pictures of this visit, as well as our earlier visit to Madley in 2012.
13 March 2016: Urishay lands - led by Peter Gunn-Wilkinson. Nine members and two dogs travelled by car up to Urishay where we took a very pleasant circular walk. We noted the different geological features and related these to an interesting landscape map.
10 April 2016: Snodhill castle and daffodil walk - led by Gill Broadhead. Thirteen people and three dogs clambered up the steep motte at Snodhill to view the castle remains, currently being restored by Historic England. We then did a circular walk around Snodhill to view the amazing display of wild daffodils in the woodlands and meadows. View pictures on our Flickr site.
Since that time the site has been opened up and the ruins stabilised. See the restoration trust website at

12 June 2016: Porthaml, Talgarth - led by Alan Picton.

13 November 2016: Kinnersley, 17 members and guests had a guided tour of Kinnersley Castle and the adjacent church, led by the owner of the castle. View pictures on our Flickr site.
