WALKS AND VISITS 2019

On Sunday 13th January seven members visited Kilpeck where we were given a fascinating guided tour of the church by Diana Thomas. She explained some of the symbolism of the amazing carved corbels and other architectural features of this beautiful Norman church.
Afterwards we climbed the motte of the adjacent castle to see the remaining stonework of the keep, and to admire the views. Visit our Flickr site for pictures of the visit.

On 10th February Thirteen members and two dogs paid a return visit to the recently restored castle at Snodhill. We were expertly guided by Edward Milford. Visit our Flickr site for pictures.
As a follow up to this visit, our Committee decided to make a donation to the Snodhill Castle Preservation Trust.
This will be used to help recreate the bottom two steps of spiral staircase in the castle's unique 12 sided tower keep. This will help understanding of the keep and also help protect and bond together the remains. The steps werecompleted in 2020 (photo attached), stored safely over winter and installed in the spring of 2021.

April 14th Walk in Moccas park.

May 8th Study Group AGM in the "Hub" at Peterchurch, followed by a fascinating talk on the Restoration of the Fish Pools at Croft Castle, by John Parsons from the National Trust.
